Wright City Fire Protection District Receives ISO Rate Improvement
On January 1, 2024, the Wright City Fire Protection District (WCFPD) received a letter from the
Insurance Services Office (ISO) confirming the reduction in the insurance rating for properties
within five road miles of a WCFPD or mutual aid partner’s responding fire station and within
1,000 feet of a fire hydrant or alternate water supply. The ISO rating for properties meeting
these criteria would change from an ISO 4 to an ISO 3. A change in rating from 4Y to 3Y will
apply to properties beyond 1,000 feet of a fire hydrant but within five road miles of a recognized
fire station.
ISO determines a rating for a fire protection area based on three parameters:
1.
Community Risk Reduction Points (CRR) (5.5 possible points).
2.
Water Supply (40 possible points).
3.
Fire Department Points (50 possible points).
4.
Emergency Communication Center Points (ECC).
The WCFPD was awarded 3.69, 25.14, 33.5, and 9/54 points respectively. The sections include
points for the number of 911 communicators on duty, types and sizes of fire apparatus, fire
department personnel training, fire hydrant size, testing, and inspection, and many other
categories with one of the largest points assess based on the adoption of the Internation
Building Codes.
Many insurance companies use the ISO rating as part of their formula for calculating insurance
premiums. WCFPD property owners are encouraged to check with their insurance companies to
see if the ISO changes will affect the cost of their insurance. WCFPD will continue to pursue
opportunities to improve our ISO rating and the level of service we provide to the citizens of our
District.
